Alara Reborn Pre-Release Tournaments at Jim Hanley's Universe

Game Day at Jim Hanley's Universe continues to get better! Sanctioned tournaments continue every weekend at both our locations, and the weekly event at the JHU Underground at our Manhattan Location is shaping up to be the go-to event of the week!

Now, beginning April 25th, Jim Hanley's Universe will be holding Pre-Release and Launch Parties for the new Magic: The Gathering expansion Alara: Reborn!

In addition to getting your hands on this hotly anticipated conclusion to the Alara series almost a full week before anyone else, participants will also receive exclusive promo cards and other nifty prizes! The format for the Pre-Release tournament will be sealed and will consist of three Shards of Alara and three Alara Reborn booster packs; players construct a deck from their packs and at the end get to keep all of the cards they opened. Format for launch parties is to be announced.

Below are the dates and times of the Pre-Release and Launch parties, exclusively in New York at Jim Hanley's Universe!

Staten Island

Saturday 4/25 - PRE-RELEASE begins at 1:00pm
Saturday 5/02 - LAUNCH PARTY begins at 1:00pm

The JHU Underground at our Manhattan Location

Friday 5/01 - LAUNCH PARTY from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm

If you can't make the pre-release event, don't worry! Both stores will have plenty of Alara Reborn boosters on their release date, April 30th!

In our next scheduled JHU Underground event, historian Craig Yoe will be doing a presentation, Q&A, and signing of his new Joe Shuster book, Secret Identity at the JHU Underground Friday, April 3! Saturday, May 2nd is one of the biggest days of the year in all of comics! Why? Well, FREE COMIC BOOK DAY at Jim Hanley's Univere, of course!

Reminder: Friday Night Magic at the JHU Underground

Last Friday's Magic Tournament was a smashing success with over two dozen participants! This week, we continue the new tradition of Friday Night Magic at the JHU Underground with a fully sanctioned Standard Constructed Tournament and a possible Sealed Tournament as well. As always, doors open at 5:00pm and the games start at 6:00pm.

GEOFF JOHNS at the JHU Underground - EXCLUSIVE Panel and Signing 4/1!

Our regular readers already know that Geoff Johns will be signing at our Manhattan Location Wednesday, April 1, in celebration of the release of Flash: Rebirth. Well, an already big event just got bigger! In addition to signing from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, the superstar writer (JSA, Superman: Secret Origin, Green Lantern) and DC Universe architect (Infinite Crisis, Blackest Night) will be doing a Q&A and Panel for a select group of fans, exclusively at the JHU Underground!

Jeffrey Lewis at the JHU Underground

We had an incredible turnout for last night's riveting lecture by Jeffrey Lewis on Watchmen. Jeffrey's in-depth analysis and exploration of Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore's masterpiece illuminated many aspects of the work in ways that even some Watchmen fanatics found fresh and surprising (check out photos from the event below). Last night's event was an excellent showcase of what we will be doing in the future at the JHU Underground at our Manhattan location. The JHU Underground will be New York City's premier location for panels, lectures, Q&As, presentations, gaming, and more! Each Friday night we have sanctioned Magic tournaments in the Underground, as well as upcoming tourneys for Universal Fighting System, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and more! So stay tuned for updates on events going down at the JHU Underground, including the hotly anticipated Craig Yoe Secret Identity event, a Clay Enos art gallery and signing (details coming soon), and something else with a little... The JHU Underground presents Craig Yoe, 4/3!

Eisner winning historian, author, and Comic Arf editor Craig Yoe's new book, Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman's Co-Creator Joe Shuster is now available at Jim Hanley's Universe, and we are proud to announce that we will be having an exclusive presentation and signing with the author April 3rd!

The new book showcases rare known erotic works by the man behind Superman, as well as works newly discovered by Yoe in his research. Featuring an introduction by Stan Lee, this exciting new work examines the history behind these drawings and their shocking connection to everything from the Supreme Court to a series of murders that shocked a city!
