Jim Hanley's Universe has New York's Premier Comic Book Store for 25 years, and is now New York's Premier Gaming Spot - now featuring fully sanctioned Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, and Warhammer tournaments every week at both JHU locations!

Magic the Gathering Draft tourneys are $15 to enter, and you get 3 booster packs on top of your entry into the hottest Magic tourneys anywhere in New York City. Standard Constructed tourneys cost $10 - you bring your own deck, with permitted expansions being Shards of Alara, Conflux, Alara Reborn, Magic 2010, Zendikar, Worldwake, and Rise of the Eldrazi. This month's line-up includes Eric Bergstrom, Mark Normand, Ray Patton, Sean Patton, and Rory Scovel - all plus one of the hottest open mics in town!

Those who have gone to our previous stand-up comedy nights already know the quality and quantity of comedy we serve up to you at the Underground, but for those who haven't given it a go, Saturday evening, May 1 is the time to check it out!

Jim Hanley's Universe and Wizards of the Coast present Magic: The Gathering Rise of the Eldrazi Launch Parties SATURDAY, APRIL 24!

The wait is over, Magic fans! Be at Jim Hanley’s Universe this Saturday, April 24 for the much anticipated launch parties of the new Magic expansion, Rise of the Eldrazi, at both JHU locations, EXCLUSIVELY at Jim Hanley’s Universe!

The format, times, and prices are the same as our hugely successful Eldrazi pre-release tourneys from 4/17, but as a reminder, here is the info:

FORMAT: Sealed (Get 6 booster packs of the Eldrazi set and build a 40 card deck to use and play against opponents for 5 rounds.)

ENTRY FEE, MAIN EVENT: $25
SIDE EVENTS: $15 Booster Drafts, size of events based on participation.

Main Event: 2:00 - 6:30 PM
Side Events (limited availability): 2:30 - 7:30 PM

Rachel Freire: Cartoonist!

Readers of the JHU Blog know what a big fan we are of cartoonist Rachel Freire. Sure, she works for us, but she is also one hell of a cartoonist, as anyone who has picked up her mini-comics can attest (indeed, we have Rachel and Vito's new FCHS mini Powder Puff on sale now!).

Rachel's been super-busy lately... We've already told you about the awesome mini-comic that she did with Eric Skillman, Dental Hygiene and Secret Identities (released during MOCCA, this will be coming soon in full color to JHU)... The FCHS graphic novel by Rachel and Vito will be out this summer... You can see her art in a new back-up feature in Savage Dragon #163 (out in August - look for it in June's Previews)... and on top of that, she's got a new webcomic, The League!
